How does Overgrad send documents to colleges?

Overview

This article is for counselors and educators who send documents to colleges through Overgrad. It explains the small icon next to each college name on a student's Applications tab and what you need to do for each one. The icon shows how the student's documents (transcript, recommendations, etc.) will get to that college. Hover over an icon on a student's Applications list to see more details, for example Preferred Send Method: Overgrad.

The four send methods

Overgrad
The college accepts electronic documents (e-docs) through Overgrad. When you send, Overgrad delivers the documents to the college directly.

What to do: Send the documents from Overgrad. Nothing else is needed.
Common App
The student is applying through Common App, and your school has Overgrad's Common App integration turned on. Forms are submitted to Common App automatically.

What to do: Make sure the student has linked their Common App account and added this college there. If they haven't, Overgrad shows a conflict on the application until it's fixed.
Email
The college doesn't accept e-docs, but it does accept documents by email. Overgrad emails the documents to the college's admissions address.

What to do: If the college doesn't have an email address on file, choose Add College Email from the application's action menu before sending.
Mail

Overgrad can't send documents to this college. The college might take documents by mail, through its own upload portal, or another way.

What to do: Send the documents the way the college asks, then choose Mark as Sent by Mail/Email so the application shows them as sent.

How Overgrad picks the icon

Overgrad checks these in order and uses the first one that fits:

  1. Common App, if the student is applying through Common App and your school has the integration.
  2. Overgrad, if the college accepts e-docs.
  3. Email, if the college accepts emailed documents.
  4. Mail, if none of the above apply.

The icon is based on what each college accepts. If an icon looks wrong for a college, email support@overgrad.com and we'll check that college's information.
